  • Priorities for biodiversity conservation:

      -Conservation of Far Eastern Leopard and Amur tiger;
      -Conservation of ornithological fauna (migrant and local bird species);
      -Conservation and restoration of aboriginal forests' ecosystems;
      -Conservation of wetlands;
      -Coastal ecosystems conservation.

    Main threats to biodiversity and environment

    A) Main threats to biodiversity (from greater to lesser degree):

      -Fires;
      -Poaching;
      -Sport hunting;
      -Deer farming crisis;
      -Transport infrastructure;
      -Agricultural activities;

    B) Main threats to environmental conditions (from greater to lesser degree)

      -Water pollution by Razdolnaya, Tumannaya rivers;
      -Non purified waters (Slavyanka, Kraskino, Posyet);
      -Contamination of Southwestern Primorye waters from adjacent water areas of Peter the Great Bay;
      -Contamination caused by transport development.

    There is a contradiction in biodiversity conservation (conservation of Far Eastern leopard, Amur tiger, wetlands, marine biological resources, shallow waters conservation) and economic development of the territory.

    Among the key negative factors, influencing preservation of land biodiversity, the following ones must be considered:

      -Fires (in the extreme southwest of the region, for example, up to 60-90% of territory burns out annually; these fires do particular harm to the birds, when nesting begins for many species, and also to the mammals, reptiles and plants).
      -Human economic activity (already resulting in, for example, fragmentation of areals of the Amur tiger, Far East leopard and other rare species; or - as in case of building of the international "Sonbon" airport in the Democratic People's Republik of Korea - carrying severe threats for numerous migrating and nesting birds of the southwest Primorye, rendering severe harm to numerous populations.
      -Poaching, which is severely damaging populations of migrating and nesting birds, ungulates and predators, as well as procurance of raw materials for eastern medicine.
      -Sport hunting. The hunting on the waterfowls in a Tumangan wetland zone is conducted throughout many years. However, this region is one of the few areals for many rare species of the numerous migrants - water birds and, doubtlessly, requires protection. Now hunting is conducted even in Khasan natural park territory, although the one and only goal of its creation it was the protection of birds.
