  • Presently nature management process and social-and-economic development of Southwestern Primorye do not correspond with its nature-and-resource potential, and unique geographic location. Due to close frontier regime up to 1990 the social-and-economic conditions of the region were slightly developed. Therefore, there is a high level of biodiversity and comparably good ecological situation in the region.

Population of the territory (within 4 administrative regions) is 153,9 thousand people; 64,4 thousand - urban population, 89,5 thousand - rural population (correspondingly 42% and 58%). It makes 7% of population in Primorsky region. Fluctuation of the population correlates with changes in social-and-economic development of the territory. Southwestern Primorye is a part of one of the most developed territories of the region - Southwestern industrial complex (map); nevertheless, it does not relate to the territories with high economic level and consistence. Gross National Product (GNP) relevance to the occupied area is less than the economic density average in Primorski region.
